A thorough debunk of Franck “Zanu” Adjisegbe Part 1: Credentials
I wanted all of this to be one post, but instead I’ll make this a series of posts examining and tackling the credentials, rhetoric and appeal as well as the most viral pieces of content that have came from Frank Zanu.
Credentials
Firstly for those with a more keen eye, you’d notice Frank Zanu lacks credentials.
A lot of people speak with high authority tone on African politics/economics without the kind of background that would normally justify that authority in academic or policy settings. There isn’t one path, but credible authority usually comes from at least a BA in Political Science / Economics / African Studies, MA in International Relations / Development Studies or even a PhD in fields like:, Political Economy, Development Economics and African Studies and from there ideally BA professor or an active tenured researcher. Thing is even WITH A DEGREE you’d still need to cite peer reviewed papers so we know what you’re saying is verifiable.
In Zanus case going off his website and his LinkedIn he was reportedly a reporter for the New York Tribune. This clearly doesn’t hold up, as The original New-York Tribune was long gone (ended in 1924) Frank himself would be around 127 today if he worked for this publication hilariously. However Its successor was the New York Herald Tribune , but even That outlet itself ceased publication in 1966, i’m assuming Frank would’ve been in his 20s because he was born and raised in the republic of Benin and so would be near or around his late 80s to 90s today at the youngest, which doesn’t appear to be the case. Additionally If someone worked at a major paper like the Herald Tribune in the 1960s, you would normally expect:
archived bylines
staff listings
mentions in journalism databases or historical archives
None of that exists for him. Even his position is very vague as there’s various different types of reporters. He also described himself as a photo journalist for The Washington Times, which is very much so a real newspaper. But though there are no publicly available staff lists, archives, or credible mentions connecting him to it. No articles, photo credits, or journalism records under his name show up.
This also can’t be solely attributed to the Follies of an external editor either, because Frank not only list these aforementioned credentials on his website but also in the direct bio of his Amazon Podcast. And on his OFFICIAL YouTube channel
He also post the link to this exact same website that has those credentials. So again, this is not an error.
This is also true regarding his claim about being a Vice Chair of the International Institute of Connecticut. There are no independent records (from the International Institute of Connecticut itself, public filings, or credible third-party sources) confirming he held that position. The only times this position is referenced are on his own self-reported websites. Same goes for his Commissioner of the city of Bridgeport Fair rent commission, and I have s…
