Its so shitty I am sorry. I dont remember any rhetorical choice rip other than the ones you learn in middle school.
In Reshma Sanjimi’s article, she claims that it is important for girls to be brave and authentic, especially from immigrant or non privileged backgrounds. She conveys her point by contrasting her background with ideal background, by using her hard to pronounce name as a hook, and using parallel structure to emphasize her parents' sacrifices. She writes for an audience of young girls and women and tries to encourage them to purse a path of STEM bravely and recognize their background and parents contributions
Firstly, Reshma contrasted her background with the ideal background of many girls. “They want to be Sweet Valley Jessicas instead of Schaumburg Reshmas “ (Saujani) Here Resha juxtaposed two different locations and environments together. One being an imaginary ideal place and the other a real life neighborhood that includes real life struggles. Resha places these two together to signal the reader that ideal and perfect situations do not exist, therefore being brave to push through what comes tomorrow is what is important. Additionally, she writes “much like barging … to start a diversity club, … running for … office felt good…I lost by a landslide.” (Saujani) Here she places a perfect scenario of her successfully running for office with the fact that she lost by a landslide and losing her job at the same time. Through this extreme contrast, Reshma conveys to her readers that it is pointless to expect life to be perfect every time, but being brave and keeping trying is, since that is what led her to be successful in founding the well known non profit Girls who code. Through placing contrasting ideal vs actual outcome examples together, Reshma allows readers to recognize the limits of perfection and the essence of bravery.
Secondly, Reshma uses her name as a hook throughout the book. She connects it with her identity and the idea that authenticity is what matters. At the start of the passage she writes “I could never turn my back on Reshma to become a Key-Chain Rita” (Saujani). Reshma refused to rename herself even if it meant a higher chance of election, something she gave up her job to pursue. This signals to the reader that there are certain properties that can never be given up for any purpose even for bravery, and this includes identity. She then moves to demonstrate how being respected and achieving what you hope for happens without losing your identity. “ Even though she needed a cheat sheet to remember who she was voting for, I couldn’t help but swell with pride that I had an Indian name “ (Saujani) Reshma later demonstrates that as long as you are a good candidate, people will come through the rain to vote for you even if they can’t pronounce their name, Responding to the earlier claim that keeping your authenticity is a must. This conveys an important message to readers that being your non perfect self is important and non…
