Switched to OVO Energy in Melbourne - AusNet area with Time of Use (TOU) tariffs for about a year now, after comparing against other providers like AGL, Origin and EnergyAustralia.

I'm offering a different perspective on just a basic household plan. IMO this is great for renters in homes with no solar or EV setup that is looking to save and penny pinch as much as possible.

The rates and overall experience have been better than expected and we have saved heaps so far. We mainly switched after our previous electricity bills kept creeping up and OVO ended up being more competitive for our area - the lowest daily charge, peak and off-peak rates.

So here's my long-term review. Main things I’ve liked: straightforward pricing - no dramas

great app for tracking usage - daily and hourly breakdown

smooth signup process - seriously no issues thus far, didn't have to contact support at all

cleaner billing compared to my previous provider

free electricity between 11am-2pm. this is amazing if you know how to automate your heating/cooling during this period to maximise savings.

For anyone already considering switching, OVO currently has referral credits available: $120 credit for standard plans, and

$180 for eligible EV plans

The credit gets applied progressively over 12 months, so $10-$15 each month.

Furthermore, you get the option of bill smoothing and OVO Energy also pays you 3% interest on any credit balances left in your account each month. WINNING!

My referral code: https://www.ovoenergy.com.au/refer/kai2147 My referral code does not expire ;) Note: It's worth comparing rates for your own distributor area obviously, but thought I’d share since I spent way too long comparing retailers and thought this will be helpful to anyone on the hunt for a new provider.
